Kalgoorlie set to become WA's vanadium powerhouse

The WA State Labor Government has made a major commitment to develop a WA vanadium battery industry with Kalgoorlie-Boulder as the hub.

As part of the ‘Made in WA’ plan, the Premier Roger Cook announced pre-election a commitment of A$150-million towards an Australia-first vanadium battery project including the installation of a 50-MW, 10 hour, vanadium flow battery in Kalgoorlie, using locally sourced vanadium. This is expected to reinforce the Goldfields’ energy system and generate around 150 local jobs.

The Premier also pledged to cut royalties on vanadium products by halving the royalty on vanadium products from 5% to 2.5%, with vanadium electrolyte remaining exempt from royalties.
